HOW TO APPLY

The 50-55 students we admit annually have displayed extraordinary leadership, creativity, initiative, and teamwork in high school. Well-rounded and social, M&T students value a rigorous academic program. Candidates have typically excelled academically in the most demanding classes, including physics and calculus, and have had meaningful extracurricular experiences.  Our students are driven and motivated.

Application for Undergraduate Admissions

High school students apply to the Program by completing the University of Pennsylvania Application for Undergraduate Admissions.

  • Because the Program is highly selective, when you complete the Penn Application and select M&T as your first choice for admissions, you must also indicate a single degree choice as your secondary option; admissions for your single degree choice will only be considered after all opportunities for placement in the dual M&T program have been evaluated.
  • You may only waive the secondary single degree choice when applying to the Program in M&T through the binding Early Decision process.

Two additional essays specific to the Program

As you complete the Common Application’s Penn Writing Supplement, you will find two additional essays specific to the Program. You must answer both essay questions to complete your M&T application.

Essay prompts:

  • Question #1: Explain how you will use the M&T program to explore your interest in business, engineering, and the intersection of the two (400-650 words)
  • Question #2: Describe a problem that you solved that showed leadership and creativity. (250 words maximum)

EARLY ADMISSIONS

High school students seeking to enter the Program may apply through Penn’s binding Early Decision process. Before you submit your application, carefully consider that accepted Early Decision applicants are contractually bound to attend the M&T program.

To apply Early Decision, complete the prompt for the Early Decision Agreement in Penn’s General section of the Common Application.

“Once I found out about the Jerome Fisher Program in M&T – the chance to go to both Wharton and get a computer science education – I couldn’t think of a better fit so I applied early.”

Before you submit your Application

If we are unable to admit you as an Early Decision candidate to your primary program choice [i.e. M&T], do you wish to be considered under the binding Early Decision agreement for your secondary school/program choice [i.e. your potential single degree]?

To apply binding Early Decision to Both M&T and a Single Degree Program

To apply binding Early Decision to BOTH your first choice (M&T dual degree) and second choice (single degree), select “YES”

To apply binding Early Decision to M&T Only

To apply binding Early Decision ONLY to the Program, select “NO”—this option directs Penn Admissions to hold your single degree application until the Regular Decision process begins; when you select “NO” your single degree admissions to Penn is non-binding.

REGULAR ADMISSIONS

Complete the University of Pennsylvania Application for Undergraduate Admissions.

Select M&T as your choice for admissions

In the Common Application’s Penn Writing Supplement, complete the two additional essay questions specific to the Jerome Fisher Program in M&T. You must answer both essay questions to complete your M&T application.

TRANSFER ADMISSIONS

Fully matriculated Penn first years are eligible for transfer into the Program. Penn students may only apply to transfer into M&T at the conclusion of their first year. Application Deadline for the first years is beginning May.

The Program requires that students complete a minimum of 46 credit units prior to graduation.

Students who seek to transfer into the dual degree Jerome Fisher Program must develop a plan of study that will satisfy the degree requirements of both the Wharton School of Business and Penn’s School of Engineering and Applied Science. Students are advised to use the excel worksheet for their intended engineering major and the M&T Wharton worksheet (available in the Course Planning Guide) to create an achievable plan.

For more information, join us for the Transfer Student Information Session on Friday, October 11th from 4pm-5pm. The link to register will be available in September 2024.

M&T DAY for NEWLY ADMITTED STUDENTS

The Jerome Fisher Program in M&T welcomes newly admitted students at a special M&T preview day held in April. M&T Day features specialized programming for students admitted to the Program, including opportunities to speak with our current students, M&T faculty, alumni, and staff.

We encourage all newly admitted M&T students to attend M&T Day. Invitations with detailed information will be mailed to students admitted to the Program in late March/early April. Please note that M&T Day is open only to newly admitted M&T students.

“This was my first time on campus, so seeing Penn as a whole was nice. I was really impressed by how close all of the current M&T students were, and they were very helpful in answering questions about academics and other activities. The panels were definitely a big part of my decision to attend.”
