OVERVIEW

What’s the best benefit of the Jerome Fisher Program in Management & Technology? You might think it’s the opportunity to earn dual degrees from The Wharton School and Penn Engineering simultaneously, or bring your innovative ideas to market—but for many students and alumni, the thing they value most is our close-knit community.

If you expect to find highly competitive students in the highly competitive Program, you may be surprised to learn that our students are most often described as “collaborative, supportive, and friends for life.” Our students nurture and champion each other, forming friendships that start in the classroom and activities, and often grow into partnerships that evolve into successful entrepreneurial ventures.

Our strong community is rooted in the Program—the campus hub—where students, faculty, and staff find space to meet, study, hang out, plan and participate in Program activities, enjoy free coffee and printing, and take advantage of academic and career advising. Individually and together, students grow here.

“The M&T community was another big reason I felt M&T was a good fit for me. Not only do M&Ts constantly work together to learn even more than we would otherwise, many M&Ts are my best friends. I live with six other M&Ts in an off-campus house. But, being in M&T has in no way limited my social interactions outside the M&T community. For me, the M&T community has been formative to my Penn experience, both academically and socially.”

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Students in the Program are generally well-rounded and engaged. In high school, most students actively participated in multiple activities, and they enter Penn with the same desire to pursue their passions, discover new interests, support their community, and make new friends.

Our students have proven time management skills, so even while pursuing dual degrees, they enjoy taking full advantage of all that Penn has to offer for personal, professional, and social growth. When they’re not developing their own products or working on start-up ventures, you’ll find Program students involved in at least a few activities, including entrepreneurial endeavors, performing arts, athletics, community service, student government, special interest clubs, and more. Many of our students also serve as teaching or research assistants for courses and disciplines that further their own growth in areas where they have particular interests.

M&T FOR LIFE

As the oldest coordinated dual degree program at the University of Pennsylvania, the interdisciplinary Program in now has nearly 2,000 alumni worldwide. Where are they now? Seth Thayumanavan, M&T’24 is a fourth-year student from Massachusetts studying chemical engineering and finance.

Caroline Chen, M&T’26 is a second-year M&T student studying computer science and finance. Last summer, because of receiving an M&T Intern Fellowship Award, Caroline was able to work for a company called Horsesmouth.

Khush Gupta, M&T’26 is in his second year as a computer science and finance major. Last summer, he was a recipient of the M&T Intern Fellowship Award and was able to gain valuable experience at a start-up as a result.
